Traffic in the Kelaniya area is restricted starting at 3:00 p.m. today (23) because of the annual school event held by Helena Balika Vidyalaya, part of the Duruthu Perahera at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. The Police report that the Perahera will begin near Helena Primary School and will move to the main road through Galborella and Walankada Junction. It will then go along Biyagama Road and enter the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya at the main entrance close to the Kelanisiri Roundabout. The following traffic changes will be in place until the Perahera ends: - Vehicles coming from Tyre Junction will be redirected at Nungamugoda Junction to Thorana Junction. - Cars on Biyagama Road will be rerouted via Gangawella Road near the temple entrance toward the Kelanisiri Roundabout. - Cars traveling from Peliyagoda to Biyagama will be sent through the Kelanisiri Roundabout to the Gangawella Road entrance of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya. - Vihara Mawatha at the Kelanisiri Roundabout will be closed completely for the procession. - Until the front of the parade reaches the Vihara Mawatha Junction, traffic on Mulleriyawa–Biyagama Road will only allow travel out toward Biyagama. - After the end of the procession enters Vihara Mawatha near Walankada, vehicles from Nungamugoda toward Biyagama, as well as those entering Waragoda Road from Biyagama, will be permitted to move under police guidance.
