Police arrested 1,025 people in a series of anti-drug raids across Sri Lanka on October 22, as part of the "Nation United - National Drive" initiative aimed at eliminating drugs in the country. During these operations, authorities secured detention orders for 22 individuals, while 20 others were referred to rehabilitation programs. The goal of this campaign is to effectively tackle the widespread issue of drug trafficking in Sri Lanka through a comprehensive approach. This strategy involves disrupting drug supply chains, lowering the demand for illegal drugs, increasing law enforcement activities, helping those struggling with addiction, promoting prevention programs to reduce drug use, and enhancing community efforts to fight against drugs. According to the Police Media Division, officers confiscated 354 grams of heroin, 529 grams of crystal methamphetamine (known as ‘Ice’), 124 kilograms and 282 grams of cannabis, 115,176 cannabis plants, 14 grams of kush, 284 grams of hashish, 791 grams of narcotic tablets, 42 grams and 700 milligrams of ‘Madana Modaka’, and 1 kilogram and 598 grams of ‘Maava’ during these operations.
