On December 20, 2025, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with Marc-Andreé Franche, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, at the Prime Minister’s Office. During this meeting, Franche praised the quick actions taken by the Government to help communities affected by the recent cyclone in Sri Lanka, according to the PM’s Office. He mentioned that, when compared to other countries, the international support that Sri Lanka has received during this disaster is remarkably high. Franche committed to using both his professional skills and personal dedication to ensure Sri Lanka gets the help it needs. In response, Prime Minister Amarasuriya expressed gratitude for the ongoing assistance from the United Nations. She noted that the efforts of political leaders and public officials during this crisis were outstanding. The Prime Minister emphasized that the teamwork from district leaders to ground-level officials contributed significantly to the success of the relief efforts. She also assured that the Government is dedicated to managing the international aid effectively and to quickly restoring normal life for those in affected regions. The meeting included Pradeep Saputhanthri, the Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Nalaka Kaluwewa, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education.
