US President Donald Trump announced that the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia will stop fighting "effective this evening." This statement came after he spoke with both leaders following violent clashes at their border that resulted in at least 20 deaths and displaced around half a million people. Neither Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister of Thailand, nor Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, has made any comments yet. However, Charnvirakul mentioned in a news conference after speaking with Trump that a ceasefire would only happen if "Cambodia will cease fire, withdraw its troops, and remove all landmines it has planted." On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that both leaders "have agreed to CEASE all shooting effective this evening, and return to the original Peace Accord made with me. Both Countries are ready for PEACE and continued Trade with the United States of America." The border dispute, which has existed for a long time, escalated on July 24 when Cambodia fired rockets into Thailand, prompting air strikes from Thailand. After several days of fighting that resulted in many deaths, the two Southeast Asian nations reached an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire" facilitated by Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Nevertheless, tensions have remained high since then.
