Cyril Munasinghe, the former Chairman of the Beliatta Pradeshiya Sabha, was taken into custody by the Bribery Commission this morning, December 12. The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has now ordered him to be remanded until December 22. He is suspected of breaking the Bribery Act by illegally gaining assets and properties worth over Rs. 3.6 million during the period from January 1, 2012, to December 31, 2012. This arrest was made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). After his arrest, Munasinghe appeared in front of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. The remand order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Lilan Warusawithana, who took into account the information provided by Bribery Commission officials and Munasinghe's lawyer.
