The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has urged the public to stay alert for early warnings about landslides. According to the NBRO, the Department of Meteorology has predicted rain in several areas of Sri Lanka, including the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central Provinces, starting today (29). The NBRO specifically advises people living in hilly regions and near riverbanks to take extra care. Residents of areas that have been inspected and marked as at risk for landslides should follow previous safety instructions closely. The NBRO also asked those living in hilly places, areas prone to rockfalls, and regions at risk for landslides to be watchful for dangerous conditions. The public is encouraged to heed the latest landslide early warnings from the NBRO. Furthermore, places that already show early signs of landslides could become active with even light rain. Therefore, the NBRO advises residents in these areas to evacuate to safer locations if they notice increasing rainfall.
