Fresh investigations into the death of ruggerite Wasim Thajudeen have been launched based on the disclosures made by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) local politician Sampath Manamperi, who was remanded over a drug case, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday. Sampath Manamperi is being interrogated under a 90-day detention order in connection with the discovery of two containers of chemicals suspected to be used in the manufacture of the drug “ICE". The Minister told the media that investigations into the death of Thajudeen have been launched through the avenues opened following the interrogation of Manamperi. Responding to a question about the opposition’s claim that the investigations were relaunched to witch-hunt opposition MPs, the Minister said investigations are still ongoing and that only those who are linked to the murder are aware of their connections to it. “Investigations are still ongoing. Evidence is being recorded. Sampath Manamperi has only started to divulge. If someone feels that he or she would be arrested, it is OK to call it a witch-hunt. Only those who are linked to it are aware of how they are linked to it. The task of the investigating bodies is to identify the links,” he said.
