President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday bomb attacks are continuing and advancing and that one or two former Army officials are expected to be arrested over the incident. Speaking during a meeting with members of the Sri Lankan community in the United States, President Dissanayake said the current administration had inherited a flawed and incomplete investigation, which may require launching fresh inquiries to uncover the truth. “The investigations are focused on identifying those truly responsible for the attacks,” he said. “Politics is a major reason why justice has been delayed. Individuals suspected of involvement in the bombings came into power soon after the attacks. Some of them even held high-ranking positions. In such a situation, how can we expect a proper investigation to proceed?” The President further claimed that evidence had been erased, concealed or manipulated to mislead the original investigations. Despite these setbacks, he expressed confidence in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), noting that recent arrests of CID officials had revealed internal sabotage. “This is not an incident that happened yesterday, it's one we've inherited under complex and compromised circumstances. But I believe the CID is capable,” he said. “Several former military officials are to be arrested soon and investigations are both continuing and advancing.
