centuries-old gem trade, steeped in heritage yet alive with modern innovation, is about to take the spotlight in a way never seen before. Ceylon Gemlogue 2025, presented by Ceylon Gem Chronicles, and endorsed by key industry Associations, the Ceylon Gem & Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA)| GemSriLanka and the Lanka Gem Dealers and Miners Association, this will mark the country’s first-ever gem dialogue forum, a one-of-a-kind platform that blends storytelling, live demonstrations, and thought leadership to present the island’s gem industry to the world. Billed as the “TED Talk of the gem world,” the forum will bring together miners, cutters, traders, exporters, jewelers, policymakers, and gemologists, creating a stage where tradition meets innovation. Ceylon Gem Chronicles partnered with Manjari, Wijaya Gems and Maera Jewellery as key sponsors, aiming to preserve Sri Lanka’s cultural legacy while equipping the trade with a global vision for the future. “I am truly moved to see an entire industry coming together in this way. It is rare and inspiring to witness such unity and purpose. No industry is without its challenges and issues, but, by coming together we can make Sri Lanka shine.” Mr. Dumindu Katuwala, Founder of Ceylon Gem Chronicles and Convener of Ceylon Gemlogue 2025 said.

One of the most anticipated highlights is the international appearance of Justin K. Prim, a master gem cutter from France and a respected figure in global gemological circles. Justin will conduct a live demonstration of gem cutting using the Banku Pattaley, Sri Lanka’s centuries-old manual gem-cutting lathe.  “For over a decade I have been in the gem cutting industry and throughout most of my career I have cut gems on a Sri Lankan machine. Even my mentor was a Sri Lankan cutter,” Justin shared, emphasizing how the island’s craftsmanship continues to shape global gemology. His presentation promises to be both a celebration of history and a masterclass in artistry. Beyond the spectacle of gem cutting, Ceylon Gemlogue 2025 will feature a stellar lineup of speakers and thought leaders. Among them is Qadheer Rawoof, Co-Founder Gemelry, who will share insights on digital innovation in the gem trade, while Samitha Liyanage, President of the Gemmologists’ Association of Sri Lanka, will lead a special session on “The Inner World of Gems.” Mubashir Mansoor, materials engineer, physicist, and gemologist all the way from Turkey, will speak on gem heating, and Dilith Jayaweera, entrepreneur and Chairman of George Steuart & Co., will deliver a special session on the resilience as an entrepreneur. The program also includes a high-profile panel discussion featuring Hon. Dr. Harsha de Silva, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance, alongside Dr. Samantha Gunasekara, gemmologist, former Sri Lanka Customs Deputy Director, and current Chairman of MEPA, among renowned industry leaders representing Rathnapura, GemSriLanka (CGJTA) and FACETS(SLGJA). These conversations are set to delve deep into issues of policy, trade, and the future of the gem sector.

Happening on the 28th of September 2025 at the Cinnamon Grand Atrium from 9.00 AM onwards, Ceylon Gemlogue’25 at its core, is more than an event, it is a narrative. It intends to strengthen Sri Lanka’s global positioning as a trusted hub for gems, supporting education and development through science and entrepreneurship, expanding international reach by attracting trade and investment, and preserving cultural legacy while ensuring modern relevance. By weaving these strands together, the forum seeks to fortify Sri Lanka’s place on the world stage while giving new voice to the artisans and experts who carry forward its timeless tradition. As the island prepares to host this pioneering initiative, anticipation runs high. With international experts, local trailblazers, and policymakers converging on one stage, Ceylon Gemlogue 2025 promises not only to celebrate Sri Lanka’s gem legacy but also to chart its path into the future. In doing so, it underscores a simple yet profound truth: Sri Lanka’s gems are more than treasures of the earth, they are stories of people, resilience, and heritage that continue to shine across generation
