LNP – Present Omicron situation not threatening: Health authorities
While saying that people have started to show a great enthusiasm in getting the booster dose of COVID-19, the health authorities said the COVID-19 or Omicron situation at present is not threatening.
“However, people should not take things lightly as things could change if a significant number of people failed to get their booster in time,” Dr. Anwar Hamdani, COVID-19 Coordinator said speaking to the Daily Mirror.
The Health Ministry has observed a 16% increase in people getting the booster over the past nine days.
Accordingly, Dr Hamdani said 46 percent of those received second dose has received their booster dose so far.
“Thus, we are hopeful that Sri Lanka will complete 70% in a couple of weeks,” Dr Hamdani stated.
“If the same momentum is maintained, we will surely reach a stable position. However, it does not mean that we can lift all safety measures. It can only be done gradually as per recommendations of experts,” he stressed.
