Today (01), the upgrade of 76 rural roads in Sri Lanka has officially started under the “Punarudayata Maga” (Path to Renaissance) programme. This initiative aims to improve life in rural areas and enhance public transport. The Department of Government Information reported that the Ministry of Transport, Highways, and Urban Development has set aside Rs. 5,000 million for the first phase of this project. The main goals include better connections between villages, easier access to markets and services, and boosting the rural economy. Furthermore, new bus services will begin today (01) on 40 rural routes that previously did not have public transport options.
