The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has gathered more than Rs. 285 million in fines from inspections conducted throughout the past year. These fines resulted from 21,000 raids performed across Sri Lanka in 2025, according to the authority's report. In addition, the CAA has tested 223 samples of food and non-food products to check if they meet safety standards. These products include steel wire, coconut oil, cosmetics, rice, canned fish, chili powder, milk, hair dyes, cordials, and syrups. The authority also noted that last year, they received 5,002 complaints via the ‘1977’ consumer complaints hotline. The CAA reported that approximately 79% of these complaints have been addressed.
