A police officer from the Nilaveli Police Station was taken into custody for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000. The arrest was made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) after investigating a complaint from a local resident in Nilaveli. The officer is said to have requested and received the bribe to help the complainant get a police report needed for traveling abroad. The Bribery Commission carried out the arrest at the complainant’s home this afternoon (16). The officer is expected to appear at the Kuchchaveli Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (17).
