The Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply, Susil Ranasinghe, has announced plans to create housing complexes for families who lost their homes because of cyclone Ditwah. During a press conference at the Ministry today (22), he mentioned that alternative land has already been located with the help of District Secretaries for this project. Minister Ranasinghe highlighted that they are working quickly to help those affected by the disaster. He reported that over 6,000 homes were completely destroyed, and more than 100,000 houses suffered partial damage. Some areas remain unsafe and unlivable, even if the homes are still standing. The minister stated, “We are taking steps to fix this situation. We have found alternative lands through District Secretaries. At many of these sites, we will build housing complexes. The Presidential Secretariat is also helping to provide the funding we need. Our ministry is currently drafting the first plans for these complexes and is consulting with the relevant officials and architects. We aim to resettle families whose homes were damaged and help those in high-risk areas move to safer locations to avoid future disasters.”
