A 34-year-old man, known for large-scale drug trafficking, was arrested in Wattala by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB), according to police reports. Officers found more than 21 kilograms of ‘Kush’ cannabis during the arrest, which has an estimated street value of Rs. 201 million. They also seized USD 4,900 in cash. Investigations showed that the suspect had purchased the cannabis in Bangkok, Thailand, and had someone else bring it into Sri Lanka, where it was hidden in his home. The PNB discovered that he had used several people to smuggle drugs into Sri Lanka and was running a drug trafficking network across the island. Police noted that the luggage carrying the drugs arrived in Sri Lanka on December 13 and was moved to the suspect’s home from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). The suspect returned to Sri Lanka yesterday, December 14, with only a small bag. After monitoring him closely, the PNB conducted a raid on his home once he arrived and found the ‘Kush’ cannabis packed in 20 parcels within an unopened suitcase. In total, 21 kilograms and 668 grams of ‘Kush’ cannabis were taken into police custody. The arrested individual, along with the drugs and cash, is set to appear in the Welisara Magistrate’s Court today, December 15.
