The Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, announced that the Treasury has disbursed over Rs. 13 billion to assist people affected by the recent disaster. He said, “Our goal is to improve how we share information quickly about the funding we are receiving.” In a special statement, he explained that all financial aid coming to Sri Lanka is directed to the Treasury, which then manages the distribution. “These funds will be distributed through the necessary systems we have in place, including the involvement of Divisional Secretariats,” he added. Suriyapperuma confirmed that the total amount disbursed has surpassed Rs. 13 billion. “More than Rs. 13 billion has been provided by the Treasury based on the approvals and supplementary budgets proposed by the President and approved by Parliament,” he noted. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to ensure that information is shared quickly, data is collected efficiently, and that the goods and financial donations received by Sri Lanka reach communities and individuals as soon as possible.
