A Sub-Inspector from the Kinniya Police Station has been taken into custody on charges of bribery. The arrest happened after a Kinniya resident filed a complaint. The officer reportedly asked for a bribe of Rs. 10,000 related to a complaint about an assault made by the resident. Two individuals had already been arrested in connection with this case, and the bribe was allegedly requested to help with the legal process of capturing the other suspects. The officer is accused of arranging to get the money through a third party. The arrest occurred yesterday (31) at about 5:20 p.m. inside the Kinniya Police Station, conducted by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. The Sub-Inspector is set to appear before the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court.
