The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced that two generators at the Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant in Norochcholai are undergoing repairs. A spokesperson explained that this has caused a loss of 600 megawatts in the national power grid. At present, only one generator at the plant is functioning, providing 300 megawatts of electricity to the grid. The CEB indicated that one generator was taken offline on November 3 for routine maintenance, while the other was shut down on December 20 due to a technical issue. Both generators are expected to be repaired and back in service during the first week of January. However, the CEB reassured that the daily electricity supply remains stable since hydroelectric power generation is still operating effectively.
