The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has announced that over 5,700 homes have been fully destroyed due to the recent severe weather in Sri Lanka. The latest figures from the DMC show that the Kandy District suffered the most damage, with 1,568 houses entirely destroyed and 14,111 houses partially damaged. Nuwara Eliya District follows with 767 homes completely demolished and 3,742 houses partially affected. Puttalam District is third, reporting 627 fully destroyed houses and 20,813 partially damaged ones. Other districts that experienced total losses include Kurunegala with 594 homes, Badulla with 578, Kegalle with 317, Anuradhapura with 234, and Polonnaruwa with 225 houses destroyed. The DMC also revealed that the highest number of people impacted by this disaster is in Colombo District, affecting 330,443 individuals from 86,147 families. Here’s how other districts are affected: Puttalam District has 287,364 individuals from 80,375 families; Kandy District has 171,127 individuals from 54,716 families; Trincomalee District has 90,140 individuals from 27,234 families; Kurunegala District has 88,899 individuals from 26,474 families; Mannar District has 77,694 individuals from 23,704 families; Kegalle District has 83,482 individuals from 23,324 families; Anuradhapura District has 74,084 individuals from 22,562 families; Badulla District has 73,547 individuals from 22,257 families; and Ratnapura District has 74,277 individuals from 19,092 families. The DMC also reported that the death toll from this ongoing disaster has reached 640.
