The Department of Irrigation in Sri Lanka has announced that it is reducing water levels in several key reservoirs due to expected rainfall in the coming days. L. S. Sooriyabandara, the Director of Irrigation (Hydrology & Disaster Management), explained that water is being released from reservoirs in Nachchaduwa and Rajanganaya located in the Anuradhapura District, as well as from Deduru Oya, Lunugamwehera, and Weheragala in the Hambantota District, and Senanayake Samudraya in the Ampara District. He assured that the amount of water being let out will not negatively affect areas downstream. Sooriyabandara mentioned that with more rain likely according to weather forecasts, the Irrigation Department is closely monitoring conditions and is working 24/7. He promised that the public will be updated on any new developments. Additionally, he pointed out that while monsoon rains are currently happening, there are no dangerous situations reported based on the latest assessments from the Department of Meteorology.
