LNP – Kris Balthazaar pledges to transform Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia

“Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia has so much potential, but we must act now to improve safety, cleanliness, and public services,” says Kris Wilhelm Balthazaar, a former senior municipal council member and SLPP candidate in the upcoming local government election.Â

Committed to transforming the area into a better place, he has outlined key plans to enhance public infrastructure, modernize waste management, and create a cleaner, safer environment for residents and visitors.

One of his main priorities is the development of Mount Lavinia Beach, a major attraction that needs better facilities and safety measures.Â

To improve the area, he proposes installing better lighting along the beach and in the ocean, adding safety nets to protect swimmers from marine life, and introducing changing rooms, toilets, and lockers. He also supports using drone surveillance to improve public safety and emergency response.

Balthazaar is also focused on modernizing waste management in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. “The current garbage collection system is outdated and inefficient, leading to pollution and public health concerns. He proposes a QR-based collection system that would track waste pickups, notify residents, and ensure a more efficient and cleaner waste disposal process,” he pointed out.

Another major issue he highlights is visual pollution caused by excessive posters, billboards, and unregulated advertisements.Â

He calls for stricter regulations to clean up public spaces and also emphasizes the need to improve public toilets in high-traffic areas, making them more accessible and hygienic.

Furthermore, he encourages residents to reduce, reuse, and recycle while refusing harmful single-use plastics.Â

He believes the local government must take an active role in promoting eco-friendly alternatives and supporting sustainable practices to protect the environment
