The government plans to develop the Nuwara Eliya Post Office as a tourist attraction while continuing to offer postal services, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.
He said that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe had previously planned to sell the Nuwara Eliya Post Office after removing it from the Postal Department.Â
At a recent Cabinet media briefing, the Minister explained that a new decision has been made to retain the post office under the Postal Department, while also developing the site as a tourist destination.Â
“A court case is currently pending regarding the matter, but the government will not inform the court of the revised decision,†he said.
The Minister also said that technical advice will be sought from the Urban Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority for the project.
