LNP – Uproar in Parliament over fuel issue
Parliament went into an uproar over the fuel distribution issue after ruling party members charged that there is a sinister move to create a fuel scarcity.
This allegation was made by both Deputy Minister Anil Jayantha and Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake today.
They insisted that the 3 percent mark-up can be computed at the price which prevails at the time the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) receives its stocks.
“The issue is that the distributors want the mark-up for the net price. This cannot be allowed as per the court decision,” Minister Ratnayake said.
Deputy Minister Jayantha said a panic situation has been created via social media.
“We assure you that there will not be any shortage of fuel,” he said.
Opposition MPs Gayantha Karunathilaka, D.V. Chanaka and Dayasiri Jayasekara insisted that the govenment take control of the situation to avoid a shortage.
“There will be a shortage after Sunday if the government fails to resolve the situation,” MP Chanaka said.
