The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has launched a special initiative to address the growing waste accumulation in Colombo.
CMC Commissioner Palitha Nanayakkara called on the public to ensure proper disposal of waste brought into the city, urging both residents and visitors to be more responsible in managing their refuse.
The Commissioner also stressed on the need for individuals coming to Colombo from surrounding areas for daily activities to minimise waste disposal, highlighting the importance of reducing the overall environmental impact during the festive season.
âResidents of Colombo are expected to contribute towards cleaning the area, while visitors should take responsibility for minimising waste and using recyclable materials. With support from visitors, the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) can effectively reduce the garbage in the area.â
Meanwhile, around 600,000 people typically visit Colombo, generating significant amounts of garbage.
