The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) yesterday refuted certain reports about a possible fuel shortage due to a fuel shipment imported by a private company being sent back.
CPC Chairman Janaka Rajakaruna told a special press briefing at the Government Information Department that a fuel shipment containing 15,000 metric tonnes of petrol 92 octane and 15,000 metric tonnes of diesel imported by United Petroleum had been sent back without unloading due to an internal issue.
He said the incident will not have any impact on the fuel supply in the country as the CPC is in possession of sufficient fuel stocks and had placed orders till April next year.
The Chairman said following a discussion with the United Petroleum Company, CPC agreed to provide them with fuel stocks so that there will be no fuel shortage in fuel stations operated by them.
âWe held a discussion with United Petroleum this morning. They informed us that they have fuel stocks sufficient for the next two weeks. We told the company that CPC will supply them fuel stocks on request,â he said.
