The fire that broke out in a hotel in the Colombo Fort area has been completely extinguished, according to the Colombo Fire Brigade.Â
Around 10 fire trucks had been dispatched to douse the flames after a fire erupted at a hotel in Colombo Fort this evening.
The blaze was reported on the seventh floor of the Steuart hotel on Chatham Street.Â
An official from the Colombo Fire Brigade told Daily Mirror that the blaze was reported on the seventh floor of the hotel on Chatham Street.Â
“Twelve fire trucks and 41 officers were dispatched to the scene to bring the fire under control,†the official said.
According to the official, several casualties have been reported; however, the exact number is yet to be confirmed.Â
Among the casualties are foreigners and police personnel.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
