Some 5,858 Covid patients were treated in 13 Ayurvedic Hospitals while 4,720 of them have fully recovered by now, State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion, Rural and Ayurvedic Hospitals Development and Community Health Sisira Jayakody said.
He told the weekly Cabinet briefing that five more Ayurvedic Hospitals will be opened for Covid treatment this week.
He said only 299 Covid patients who were under treatment in Ayurvedic Hospitals had developed complications and required treatment at western medical hospitals.
The Minister said Covid treatment at Ayurvedic Hospitals was performed as a combination of both Ayurvedic and Western medicinal practices and added that Ayurvedic Hospitals treating Covid patients were working in tandem with a Government Western medical hospital.
He said the complications among Covid patients who are being treated at Ayurvedic Hospitals are minimal and said no mortalities have been reported till date
