The Delta Variant of COVID 19 which has mutated into three different variants is spreading all over the nation, State Minister Channa Jaysumana told Parliament today.
âSpreading Delta variants had resulted in an increasing number of COVID Patients becoming oxygen dependent. These mutations have resulted in a spike of COVID cases during the past few days,â the state Minister said.
âAround 54% of the Sri Lankan population has had one jab of vaccines, while 46% given both the doses.â he revealed.
âI predicted the Delta variant will spread across the nation on July 19, 2021. But some political parties including SJB and JVP staged street protests. They brought down busloads of people vehemently ignoring health guidelines,â he also said.
He said Russia has pledged to supply another large consignment of Sputnik-V vaccines.
