The COVID-19 ward at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH) in Colombo designated to treat COVID-19 infected children has reached its maximum capacity, Hospital Director Dr G. Wijesuriya said.
He said the rate of children getting infected with the virus is on the rise.
âAround 70 children infected with COVID are currently receiving in-house treatment at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital while around 15 cases are reported daily from the hospital,â he said.
âHowever, the maximum capacity in the ward where COVID-19 infected children are treated, has almost exceeded and therefore, some children are transferred to other hospitals,â the Director pointed out.
Therefore, he said they had taken steps to obtain a separate building in Rajagiriya through the Ministry of Health to accommodate the treatment facilities for children.
Dr Wijesuriya proceeded to say that as the cases related to children could increase further in future, the parents are requested to be cautious of their children.
