LNP – Several additional trains will be added to the service: Dy GMR

Due to an increase in commuters, the railway department has decided to assign more trains to help the commuters while maintaining social distancing, Railways Deputy General Manager Gamini Seneviratne said.

He said, considering the crowd yesterday and day before, an additional train was added from Ambepussa railway station on the main line last evening.

“In addition to the trains running yesterday, four additional trains will be assigned to the main line on Friday (25). Other than the trains which are already scheduled to be added to the track, another train will run on the coastal line. “Two new trains have been added to the Kelani Valley and Chilaw lines,” he explained.

“Due to an increase in the number of train services, it will be easy for the commuters to travel,” Mr. Seneviratne said.

Accordingly, the decision was taken considering the increase in the number of commuters and to maintain social distancing to control the COVID-19 spread, he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Seneviratne said that no passenger trains will be on track tomorrow, only the goods trains and tanker wagons will be operated.

The decision about operating trains on Saturday and Sunday will be taken on Friday (25), Mr. Seneviratne added
