LNP – Bumper cucumber harvest

Farmers in the Eastern Province have received a bumper harvest of cucumber this time.

Those who have cultivated cucumber in their home gardens now earn a good income.

Farmers in Kirankulam in the Batticaloa District and Thiraikeny in the Addalaichenai DS division have received a good harvest. A kilo of cucumber is sold at Rs.100.

  • When ever a bumper harvest is harvested there is many wasteful practices which takes place. Ultimately it is the poor farmers who suffer due to lack of storage facilities. The authorities must ensure the poor farmers are not affected by excess supply and resultant price drops. Ultimately in such situations it is the middlemen who make the money.
