95% SLFP organizers against joining SLPP: CBK

While saying that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) had been handed over to conspirators just for his personal benefit by a leader who came to power with 6.2 million votes, former president Chandrika Kumaratunga said 95% SLFP organisers were against the SLFPs decision to join the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Issuing a statement, she said this had been done to fulfil mere political objectives and according to the discretion of a few SLFP members.

“What is pathetic is that this decision was taken on the day when the 10th death anniversary of late prime minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike was commemorated,”

“SLFP is a party which has been victorious and democratic right throughout the history but now the SLFP has fallen to a state where it cannot field its own candidate for the upcoming presidential election,” Kumaratunga said.

She invited true SLFP members to take a wise decision in the upcoming elections in order to defeat the coup.

She proceeded to say that the SLFP was a party which had not killed anybody and not plundered people’s money but reigned in power ensuing transparency.Â
