Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratna has decided to pay a reward of Rs.5 million to the person who provided information which lead to the recovery of explosives from two safe houses at Samanthurai and Nintavur in Ampara, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said.
The information he provided had enabled the authorities to avert another attack by extremists in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attack and led to the detection of explosives from a safe house in Samanthurai and another at Nintavur on April 26.
Police said the acting IGP had decided to reward the informant with Rs.2.5 million for each of the locations.
SP Gunasekera said President Maithripala Sirisena had directed the acting IGP to felicitate the person.
The decision to reward the person was taken after the Daily Mirror reported that the authorities and officials had made use of the information provided by the person but had failed to acknowledge his bravery and provide security to his family.
