S. Thomas’ demolish Science 37-9

S. Thomas’ College demolished their home town rivals Science College by 37 points to nine points in their Under-19 Inter-Schools League Rugby Tournament second-round encounter played at Mount Lavinia yesterday (17).
The Thomians after having taken a 13-6 lead at the breather, accumulated their points through three goals, two tries and two penalties against the three penalties scored by their opponents.
The Thomians went on the rampage in the second half as they added 24 points while Science College were able to collect only three points through a penalty.
But surprisingly it was Science College who opened the scoring in the first half with fly half Yasas Kavindu booting over a penalty in the third minute and he followed it by making no mistake with another penalty, three minutes later to give his side a 6-0 lead.
The Thomians struck back to equalise with scrum half Sakith Perera booting over a penalty and put over another penalty two minutes later to make it six-all.
The Thomians scored their first try in the 25th minute with burly number eight Rewanka Abeywardena doing the honours with Sakith Perera adding the extra points.
On resumption, the Thomians planted four more tires through hooker Lashendra de Silva, Rewanka Abeywardena, second row forward Aaquib Cader and prop forward Ruwan Tissera.
Scrum half Sakith Perera was able to make only two conversions while the solitary penalty for Science College was booted over by Yasas Kavindu which ensured the Thomians a convincing victory in the end.
