Budget 2019 has many good proposals – Amaraweera

The Budget 2019 proposals include many good proposals to uplift the people and these are commended by the Opposition, Hambantota District MP Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He was participating in the budget debate in Parliament yesterday. He said that hardly a country has prospered by granting handouts and grants. “A country cannot be developed in this manner. Therefore, the government’s Enterprise Sri Lanka programme should be commended and it should be done without any political pressure or affiliations, solely with the country’s development process in mind,” the MP said.
“The measures taken to increase taxes on cigarettes, alcohol and beedi leaves will serve to steer the country in the right direction and allocating funds for providing lavatory facilities to those without such facilities is also very commendable,” he said.
Amaraweera said that while the government is focused on developing Hambantota, if these efforts are to prove more fruitful, the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga projects should also be implemented without delay. He appealed to the government to focus on these projects, even though it is not included in this budget and benefit the people maximum.
