No Gen Election soon Govt

Parliament cannot be dissolved until it completes four and half years. So, there won’t be any General Election in the near future, said Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala de Silva, on behalf of the new Government.
If the Appropriation Bill is rejected or a vote of no-confidence is passed with two thirds of the Parliament against the newly appointed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, President Maithripala Sirisena, will appoint another Prime Minister, who, in the President’s opinion, is most likely to command the confidence of the Parliament, he said citing Article 42 (4) of the Constitution to support his argument.
Article 42 (4) states that the President shall appoint as the Prime Minister, the MP, who, in the President’s opinion, is most likely to command the confidence of the Parliament.
Claiming that the Constitutional rights of the nation had not been violated by the President, he added, “If anyone thinks that the President has violated the Constitution, they can go to the Supreme Court and seek justice. However, no one, including former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, has gone to Court thus far. Even Wickremesinghe knows that the President has an absolute Constitutional right to appoint the Premier. Even Speaker of the Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya accepted Rajapaksa as the incumbent Prime Minister, thus all the privileges of the position will be given to him, including the Prime Minister’s seat in the Parliament.”
Quoting Article 70 (1) of the Constitution, where the President may, by proclamation, summon, prorogue and dissolve the Parliament, he claimed the President can prorogue the Parliament even for two months. “Thus no democracy is violated, in fact, we respect democracy,” noted de Silva.
He made these remarks during a press conference held by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party yesterday (2).
It is not decided whether the new Government will present a Vote On Account or an Appropriation Bill to the Parliament, however Rajapaksa instructed significant tax cuts even before presenting either, said newly appointed Government Spokesman, Mahinda Samarasinge, adding that the fuel pricing formula, which was introduced by the previous Minister of Finance Managala Samaraweera, would be invalidated under the current Government’s economic policy.
“Speaking about the privileges of the Prime Minister, former Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has a moral duty to leave the office, Temple Tree premises,” claimed Samarasinge, adding that the current Government doesn’t need the Temple Trees to govern the country.
He invited the nation to join the ‘Jana Balaya’ rally on 5 November to support the President and the Prime Minister.
