Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today reiterated that he is still the Prime Minister of the country according to the provisions of the Constitution.
Wickremesinghe said thus while speaking at a media briefing held at the Prime Ministerâs office and official residence, the Temple Trees this morning.
He urged President Maithripala Sirisena to reconvene the Parliament at the very earliest in order to establish which side commands the majority in the House. âIf my opponents do not fear defeat then I urge them to show a majority in the House,â Wickremesinghe added.
Leaders of constituent Parties of the United National Front took part in the press briefing. Ministers Rauff Hakeem, Rishad Bathiudeen, Mano Ganeshan and Palani Digambaram pledged allegiance to Wickremesinghe.
