Postal workers work to rule ongoing

Postal trade unions after deciding to temporarily call off their strike until 7 July, following talks with the authorities, have instead commenced a work to rule campaign since 27 June.
The unions decided to end the strike after a discussion held with Minister of Posts, Postal Services and Muslim Affairs, Abdul Haleem and other officials, to give an opportunity to the Ministry to discuss with the National Salaries and Cadre Commission and to implement the prepared solutions for recruitment and promotion related issues, Co-Convener of the Joint Front of Postal Trade Unions Chinthaka Bandara told Ceylon Today.
“However, our continuous satyagraha at the Central Postal Exchange will continue, and we will refrain from doing overtime duties, too. If they are unable to give any proper solution on or before 7 July, we will resume the strike.”
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Ministry of Post and Postal Services, R.M.D.B. Meegasmulla told Ceylon Today that all steps and procedures for the solutions to the grievances of postal employees had already been prepared.
“The solutions and procedures have already been prepared. Implementing the solutions is a long term process. In discussions which were held on 25 June with the National Salaries and Cadre Commission officers and others, we prepared a timeframe for the implementation. There will be final discussions over the issue between 2 and 5 July,” he said.
