Police nab 3,666 during special raid

Sri Lanka Police has arrested 3,666 individuals, including 998 suspects with warrants against them, during a special 11-hour operation.

Police Media Spokesperson Superintendant Ruwan Gunasekara said the special raid was carried out between 9 last night and 8 this morning.

17,682 police personnel were deployed during the raid. In a statement, the Police Media Unit said cases were also filed against 6,012 persons.

Meanwhile, 648 persons were apprehended for driving under the influence. Police has apprehended 1,090 persons for various other offences, 843 persons for the possession of narcotics while 77 suspects of criminal activities were also apprehended during the raid.

The Police Media Unit added nine persons were arrested for carrying firearms without a valid permit.
