“I have no idea who came up with the 100 day program” – President

The event to mark the 76th birth anniversary of the late Most Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero took place in Colombo today. The birthday of the Most Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero fell yesterday, however, the event was organized today at the Foundation Institute in Colombo to honour the service rendered by the late Thero to the nation and the Sasana.

President Maithripala Sirisena speaking at the event stated that he was not invited to the event and went on to state this is similar to everything that happens in the country without his knowledge. The President questioned as to who had ruined the vision of the late thero.

The Head of state also began to speak about an article that appeared on an English daily which compared the anti-corruption actions of Mahathir Mohammad to his own actions. The President stated that the published information was false adding that he had reached out to his contacts in Malaysia. President Sirisena also defended the actions of the current government on combating corruption.

Speaking on the subject of vehicles used by him as well as the previous administration, President Sirisena revealed that he was not responsible for providing a helicopter to Mahinda Rajapaksa after his election defeat and that  his name had been used by another powerful individual to get the task done.

President Sirisena claimed during the event that he had no idea who came up with the 100 day program and reminded the general public that he was named as the Common Candidate as there was no one else brave enough to take up the position.
