Leader of the UNP and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, having defeated the No Confidence Motion (NCM) brought against him by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, yesterday urged party members to prepare for national elections.
Hosting a breakfast reception at †Sirikothaâ€, Wickremesinghe thanked the UNP Ministers and parliamentarians who had rallied around him to defeat the NCM), which he described as an attempt not just to oust him, but the first step in trying to topple the National Unity Government led by President Maithripala Sirisena.
He said that by defeating the NCM with a margin of 46 votes, the UNP, had achieved an historic victory, since coming to power in 2015.
