PCOI to probe Srilankan Airlines & Mihin Air

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to look into malpractices reported at SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Air proposed by the President has been appointed.

The President’s Media Division issuing a statement said the gazette notification pertaining to the appointment of the Commission has been signed by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Accordingly the Commission of Inquiry has been mandated to probe discrepancies reported at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Air between the 1st of January 2006 to the 1st of January 2018.

The Commission will be headed by retired Supreme Court judge Anil Gunaratne.

Retired Appeals Court Judge Gamini Rohan Amarasekera, retired High Court judge Piyasena Ranasinghe, retired Deputy Auditor General Anthony Harold and the Director General of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board Wasantha Jayaseeli Kapugama comprise of the Commission.

The investment by the General Treasury, Banks and any other financial sources at SriLankan Airlines, SriLankan Catering and Mihin Lanka Airlines, termination of the agreement between SriLankan and Emirates Airlines and recruitment, promotions, transfers, retirement and appointment of Directors, Chief Executives, Chairmen and senior management of these three institutions were among the 10 point term of reference of the Commission.
