The United National Party (UNP)Â played down a statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena that he has taken over directing the national economy from this year.
Deputy Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs Dr. Harsha de Silva said that he spoke to the President and that the President insisted he didn’t mean taking over the responsibilities of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe but only use the National Economic Council (NEC) more for the national economy.
“NEC has President PM FinMin some others. He took time to explain to me what he meant at Bogollagama wedding,â€Â Harsha de Silva tweeted.
