President to meet Civil Society groups next week

A discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and civil society groups that had been instrumental in bringing the current regime to power will be held next week.

Sources said that during this meeting several issues are to be discussed at length such as the promises given to the masses during the last Presidential and General Elections including the enactment of a new Constitution, abolition of the Executive Presidency, the punishments which are to be meted out to rogues of the previous regime, and a few more.

Sources said that the civil society groups will also convey their stance on the precise length of the term that the incumbent President will be entitled to serve in office despite the latter having sought the standpoint of the Supreme Court in this regard.
