PCoI Report on Bonds scam Ball in AG’s court AG has to file indictments – Dayasiri

Co-Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera said that all that was left in terms of action to be taken with regard to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) investigating and inquiring into the issuance of Treasury Bonds, is to peruse the Report and for the Attorney General to file indictments against those responsible.

Addressing the Media yesterday (2), he added that President Maithripala Sirisena will make a statement with regard to the final outcome of the Bonds scam and that those involved will be strictly dealt with regardless of their status. “We are pleased with the manner in which the inquiries pertaining to the Bonds scam was conducted,” he said and added, “President Maithripala Sirisena said he will wield his sword with regard to the Bonds scam and that he was still unaware who will be slashed with the sword, it may be a friend, foe, politician or businessman, it can be anyone. Despite being in the Government, we made a bold move to establish several inquiries into the scam. The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC), the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Bonds scam and even the Committee On Public Enterprises have done an enormous task in conducting investigations. The files that were submitted to the President were thorough.”

Yesterday, President Sirisena called for those who conducted investigations into the Bonds scam to submit all Reports with regard to the probes. It was said that President Sirisena had consulted several persons including the Attorney General President’s Counsel, Jayantha Jayasuriya during the weekend over the recommendations.

The 1,400 page final Report, along with its 100 annexures and the recording of information from 70 witnesses, was the result of the year-long inquiry by the Commission. The Commission was chaired by Supreme Court Judge, Justice K.T. Chithrasiri along with Supreme Court Judge, Justice Prasanna Sujeewa Jayawardana and former Deputy Auditor General, Veluppillai Kandasamy.
