Kiriella responds to MR’s SAITM statement

In related to : The SAITM Medical Degree Issue Should Be Resolved Without Further – Mahinda Rajapaksa


Minister of Higher Education Lakshman Kiriella says the statement issued by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa pertaining to the operation of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine includes fabricated information.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy Minister Kiriella said the present government has already provided adequate solutions for the issues pertaining to SAITM.

He said,” I would like to inform the former President that we have already provided solutions for the issues even though he is not aware of it. A Presidential Commission was appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena. The Commission consists of individuals representing various medical fields. Secretaries of Ministries, Deans of medical faculties and all other members of the committee accepted the report produced by the Commission. Even the medical faculty heads have agreed to the solution that we provided. The recommendations are being implemented. All issues pertaining to SAITM was solved and it has been abolished. We are still in a transitional period. We will be closing down SAITM and will establish an institution to maintain a new private medical college”
