Police deployed to railway stations

Special police security has been deployed to all railway stations to ensure the operations of trains.

The Police Headquarters said the measure was resorted to, to ensure the safety of commuters.

The Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has issued the directives to all Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police and DIGs.

Security was beefed up in the event of obstructions to the operation of trains by those protesting.

The strike was launched by Railway Station Masters, Controllers and guards in opposition to the employment of engine drivers assistants outside the stipulated recruitment process.

Meanwhile the Railway Control Room said 110 morning office trains have been cancelled today owing to the strike action.
