Heavy rain , strong winds lash South
Strong winds (about 80 kmph) have hit Galle,Matara,Hambantota districts and heavy rain with strong winds are reported in Western Province.
The depression is now located in the South-west of Sri Lanka, and expected to develop further and move away from the island, according to weather reports.
Very heavy falls (above 150mm) can be expected at some places in the Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central,Uva and Western province while heavy falls (above 100mm) can be expected at some places elsewhere, according to the weather report issued by the Meteorological Department.
Heavy rains with very strong winds and very rough seas can be expected in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island (particularly in the Western and Southern sea areas) and the wind speed can increase up to 90-100 kmph at times, the Department announced.
The Department requests Naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regards.
Electricity supply in several areas including Galle, Matara, Hambantota and Badulla districts have been disrupted due to strong winds and lightning, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
Meanwhile, The Road Development Authority (RDA) requests motorists on Southern Highway to limit their speed to 60 kmph due to the prevailing heavy rain and wind conditions.
