Sri Lanka seeks private investment in domestic airports; aero sports zones
Sri Lanka will seek private public partnerships to develop several domestic airports to help the tourism industry, and aero sports will also be boosted, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said.
Domestic airports in Sigiriya, Batticaloa, China Bay and Koggala will be developed under PPP schemes, he said, presenting a budget for 2018.
Sri Lanka will identify several zones as “open skies for aero sports”, with “3 dimensional boundaries” Minister Samaraweera said.
Sports could include, hang gliding, ballooning, parachuting, para-gliding and using dirigibles (blimps).
National building tax and ports and airport levy will be removed on imports of non-powered equipment for sports.
