Serene Holdings invests Rs 2.6 bn for three hotels in Kandy, N’Eliya

The Golden Crown Hotel Pvt. Ltd, which is owned and operated by Serene Holdings, has invested Rs. 2.6 billion to build three additional hotels in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Two of the hotels would be five star while the third would first City Hotel in Kandy.

The family owned Hotel Company’s first five star hotel, Serene Golden Crown Hotel 2 km away from Kandy would open in the first week of November.

The hotel has 90 Rooms including 72 Deluxe Rooms, 10 Junior Suites, 6 Premium Suites, a Crown Suite and a Presidential Suite complete with a private elevator for both the Presidential and Crown suites and also the first hotel in the region to have a helipad.

Managing Director, The Golden Crown Hotel Pvt. Ltd, Chanuka Wijekoon said that the Golden Crown Hotel also hopes to attract a major MICE market with their conference facility which has 8,000 covers which makes it the biggest conference facility in Kandy.

Director Finance & Administration, Hansanie Wijekoon said that the investment on The Golden Crown exceeded US$ 15 million and that their Board of Directors felt the investment was more than worth it as they foresaw tremendous potential for tourism in Sri Lanka.

The second hotel Tea Village in Nuwara Eliya, would be a 44 room five star luxury hotel and this would be ready by the end of the year.

This proposed City Hotel would have 144 rooms and would be built at a cost of Rs. 600 million.

“We have already purchased a land for this and the project plan too has being approved.”

The group also owns and operates Serene Grand Villa in Kandy and Serene Kings Villa in Nuwara Eliya.
